While in New York City recently, we were fortunate enough to spend an evening at Kimpton’s The Muse; a lovely and ‘family-friendly’ boutique hotel in Midtown. The Muse is conveniently located near Times Square, the Theater District and Rockefeller Center. With such a central location, you might expect it to be noisy, but it is quite the opposite. The property is positioned on a very quiet street, providing an oasis of calm from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Finding rooms that can accommodate more than one child can sometimes be tricky in New York City. During our stay, we very much enjoyed our Executive Suite, which gave us a little extra space, as the kids could sleep on the pull out couch in the living room. The Muse also offers a double/double room configuration (see below).
Like me, my children are big fans of the Kimpton Hotel Group. Over the years they having enjoyed many perks from their ‘Kimpton Kids‘ program, including the use of complimentary leopard print kids robes, and a little gift upon check-in. Personally, my favorite Kimpton perks are the complimentary morning coffee and tea service in the lobby (I sometimes even like to sneak downstairs to enjoy it while the rest of the family is still sleeping), and the very popular evening wine tasting.
The Muse lobby is artfully designed, providing a nice gathering spot from which to make your plans. My children were especially impressed with the lobby washrooms, absolutely insisting that I must ‘Check them out!’. The Kimpton has taken a ‘choose your own theme’ approach to their powder rooms with doors labelled ‘Glam’, ‘Rebel’ ‘Passion’ and ‘Macho’. It all felt very Alice in Wonderland.
During our stay at the Muse, my daughter and I were lucky enough to try out their new ‘On Demand Glam’ in-room hair and make up service. I can’t express in words what peace of mind I had knowing that once I got back to the room after a busy day, all I needed to do was shower, pick a ‘look’ from the ‘On Demand Glam’ lookbook on the bedside table, pour myself a glass of wine, and wait for a knock at the door. 1 hour later…..instant glam.
The On Demand Glam service options include blow out and styling ($75), make up application ($75) and even a makeup lesson ($200). Hair styling is also available for children ($36).
