 A Paris Picnic – 5 Perfect Places

Paris Picnic Parks

One of my favorite things to do with my kids in the summertime is to have a family picnic. With baguettes and brie on the mind, we asked Paris local Sarah Boeuf to share with us her insider’s list of the best places to enjoy a picnic in Paris. Here is what she had to say:

Sunny days are finally here in Paris! What’s better to enjoy it than to organize a family picnic with fresh products made by your own hands, in a beautiful Parisian park or garden, where children can romp in playgrounds and parents rest on the green grass.

Here are five excellent picnic spot choices:

1. Picnic at the Eiffel Tower – Champ de Mars

This place is the biggest green space visible from the top of the Eiffel tower, fully opened and located in Paris 7. The Champ de Mars is definitely the ideal place to have a picnic with your family, particularly because you are just under the “Dame de Fer”, the symbol of France. This parks contains wonderful areas, many playgrounds for children, several snack places, as well as carrousels and puppet shows (check website for dates).

Address: 2 Allée Adrienne Lecouvreur – 75007 Paris

Hours: 24/7.

2. Park Clichy Batignolles – Martin Luther King

This is the biggest urban park of the 17th district, not far from the quarter of Batignolles. There are benches and lounge chairs, 4 playgrounds and many green spaces to relax and have a picnic. Water features prominently in the park design, which is why you will find many water games and a water column that goes up to 5-meters-high, using recovered rainwater.

Address: 147 rue Cardinet – 75017 Paris

Hours: 7/7, from 8:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. on weekends) to 9:30 p.m.

3. Picnic at Park André Citroen

This is one of the largest park of the city, located in Paris 15, and the only one to be directly open to the Seine. You’ll find 14 hectares of large paths and several different gardens including: the White Garden, with beautiful white plants and several playgrounds for kids, where the whole family can rest and to picnic on the grass; and the Black garden with a more dense vegetation and the big central park with about 120 water games. The park also has a large gas tethered balloon that takes up to 30 adults and 60 children as high as 150 meters in the air. What a view !

Address: 2 rue Cauchy – 75015 Paris

Hours: 7/7, from 8:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. on weekends) to 9:30 p.m.

4. Villemin Garden

Located in Paris 10 on the site of a former military hospital, along the Canal St Martin and next to Place de la République, this large public garden is well suited for a picnic with children. There is a large playground for toddlers and a baby relay in front of the lodge of the park’s keeper, where you’ll find drinking water, an electrical outlet to plug a bottle warmer, kid toilets and a space to change baby (but you’ll have to bring your own mat).

Address: 14 rue des Récollets – 75010 Paris

Hours: 7/7, from 8:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. on weekends) to 9:30 p.m.

This garden is located in the Marais district, extending from the 3rd to 4th arrondissement of Paris, in which you can find about 20 parks and gardens. The Hotel Salé is now home to the Picasso Museum that you’ll recognize with the two sphinxes standing guard in front of the hotel’s facade. The lower part of the garden is open in the public, and there you can have a picnic and your children can have fun in the little playground.

Address: 101ter, rue des Coutures Saint-Gervais – 75003 Paris

Hours: 7/7, from 8:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. on weekends) to 8:30 p.m.
